Clean, Protect & Maintain your heating system

Maintaining an efficient and reliable heating system is crucial for homeowners, as it ensures comfort and helps reduce energy bills. With this, our preferred partner, with over 25 years of expertise in central heating protection, Sentinel, offers a comprehensive range of products designed to restore and maintain your system’s efficiency, whether new or existing.

It might sound odd when your installer says your brand-new central heating system needs cleaning. After all, everything is freshly installed—gleaming pipes, radiators, and a shiny new boiler—all filled with perfectly clear water. So, why would they consider the system “contaminated”? Let us explain!

Corrosion

We see water as harmless and clean, but corrosion can occur quickly if the wrong circumstances come together, as is possible within your heating system. This is also often called magnetite, which forms a sludge layer in your installation.

This sludge will thicken further over time and settle in places with a lower flow, such as at the bottom of your radiators and/or underfloor heating. As a result, your central heating system will be hampered in its operation and can sometimes cause a general blockage.

Lime Scale

In some areas in the UK, we still have to deal with ‘hard’ water. Limescale builds up on the surface of your heating system at the places where heating takes place. This immediately brings a few points of attention. Firstly, this adversely affects your installation’s efficiency because your boiler must work harder to achieve the same result. This is because lime has an insulating effect, which is the opposite of what you have in mind with your heating system.

Secondly, it can cause boiler noise; a noise, thumping or knocking. Finally, limescale lumps together and due to the flow in your installation, flakes can float and sit where you do not want them, namely as a blockage of your pump, valves and/or valves.

What happens during a power flush?

During a power flush, our power flush machine is connected to your central heating system to pump a high-pressure flow of water and sentinel x100 cleaning chemical is pumped through the pipes, radiators, and boiler. This process dislodges and removes any sludge, rust, or debris buildup, ensuring they are discarded from your system.

The engineer monitors the expelled water for clarity and cleanliness to remove contaminants thoroughly. Additionally, inhibitor chemicals may be added after the flush to prevent future buildup. A power flush revitalizes your heating system, enhancing its efficiency, performance, and lifespan.
